Job Description:
This is a full-time, tenure-track faculty position in Sociology to begin August 2010. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to teach occasional topics and honors courses, the introduction to cultural anthropology course creatively, and the first-year university-wide seminar. The Sociology department is composed of five tenure-track sociology lines and one anthropology line, with anthropological courses included as part of the Sociology major. The Sociology department requires a capstone thesis in which majors are guided through a research project and present findings during a public colloquium. Departmental offerings contribute to interdepartmental programs; East Asian Studies is an area in which the successful candidate will contribute three courses each academic year and Introduction to East Asian Studies on a rotational basis with East Asian faculty in other departments.
Requirements:
Ph.D. required. Applicants should have an East Asian cultural anthropologist background with teaching and research focus in popular culture and gender who can teach methodology from a qualitative perspective. Expected to have a well-rounded professional career, including research and service components alongside a strong and clear commitment to excellence in teaching.
