Job Description:

This is a one year, full-time, visiting faculty position in Geology to begin August 2010. The primary teaching responsibilities will include introductory geology and advanced courses in biogeosciences. Advanced courses would be designed to attract students from the interdisciplinary areas of the successful candidate's expertise. Contributing to the interdepartmental programs such as environmental studies or the University's first-year interdisciplinary course would also be encouraged. The successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate excellence in teaching and to supervise student research in their area of expertise. Current faculty expertise in the department includes mineralogy, igneous and metamorphic petrology, economic geology, process geomorphology, and process sedimentology. This appointment is renewable for up to three years; it offers the successful entry-level candidate an opportunity to gain experience in teaching and advising student research in a liberal arts and sciences setting while participating fully in university benefits, including faculty development opportunities.

Requirements:

Ph.D. or ABD required. Applicants should be broadly trained in the geosciences with expertise in the biogeosciences, specifically in the areas of paleoclimatology, geochemistry, geobiology, or geomicrobiology. Preference will be given to candidates with interest and experience in areas involving mineralogy, including biomineralization, mineral-microbe interactions, and weathering.
